Score:  83.04% Bicycle Friendly

Position running for: City Council District 10

Question 1:
"You're driving along and you encounter a person on a bicycle taking up the entire lane. What is your reaction?

A, That's illegal and they should be riding on the sidewalk.

B, Intimidate them so they will learn their place on the roadway.

C, It's okay to hit them with your car, and it's their fault for being in the way.

D, None of the above.

Reason for answer: D.
It is legal for bikes to use the road if there is no bike lane. More specifically, the law states that bikes are to stay near the curb as much as possible unless taking a turn but they have the same rights as vehicles. I've encountered this scenario many times in district 10 due to lack of bike lanes.

Question 2:
Running for Council: Will you as a Council Member focus on putting down a Protected Bicycle Lane on the busiest corridor in your district? And what is the busiest corridor in your district?
Yes
Comments: One of my platforms for improving infrastructure is making sure bike lanes are expanded in the district and city. For instance on some of the busiest streets in the district such as O'Connor and Nacogdoches have no bike lanes!

Question 3:
"How should the Linear Creekways be funded, and on which improvement to the Linear Creekway do you want the funds to be spent?"
Answer: To support the completion of the project, we will have to find the funds in the annual budgets or put another tax on a future ballot. I support finishing the project. Since there is an advisory board, I would heed their advice on completion.

Question 4:
"Do you support increased funds to expand and maintain VIA bus services and routes?"
Yes
Reason for answer: Approximately 1/4 of our population relies on public transportation in some way. It is critical to keep reinforcing public transportation services to build and support a reliable method of transport for those who need it.

Question 5:
"Should funding for more bicycle lanes and pedestrian safety education be included in the city's annual transportation budget?"
Yes
Reason for Answer: As mention previously, I support the continued expansion of bike lanes in the district. Additionally, with so many who rely on public transport, we need to ensure walkways and sidewalks are available and in good condition. As we expand these services, education is needed to ensure a safer community.
