Score:  81.6% Bicycle Friendly

Position running for: City Council District 2

Question 1: "You're driving along and you encounter a person on a bicycle taking up the entire lane. What is your reaction?

A, That's illegal and they should be riding on the sidewalk.

B, Intimidate them so they will learn their place on the roadway.

C, It's okay to hit them with your car, and it's their fault for being in the way.

D, None of the above.

Reason for answer:  None of the above. It is perfectly legal, and required, for a person on a bicycle to share our roads. Many are forced to drive in regular lanes because most streets do not have designated bicycle lanes. My response would be to patiently drive behind them, even if I was frustrated. The frustration must be focused on our city’s unwillingness to prepare our roads for multiple modes of transportation. As an elected official, I will advocate for increased protected bicycle lanes.

Question 2: Running for Council: Will you as a Council Member focus on putting down a Protected Bicycle Lane on the busiest corridor in your district? And what is the busiest corridor in your district?
Yes
Comments:  The busiest corridors are WW White on the East, Rigsby and 410 on the East, Foster Rd and 78  on the NE, Walzem and 35 N, Harry Wurzbach and Austin Hwy. If elected, I would have an increased focus on Protected Bicycle Lanes throughout the city, including all of the listed corridors, as they are proven to dramatically increase safety for drivers and cyclists.

Question 3:  How should the Linear Creekways be funded, and on which improvement to the Linear Creekway do you want the funds to be spent?
Answer:  The Linear Creekway trails should be funded jointly between the City and County. There have been  gaps in city funding created by tax shifts from the projects. Funding for Linear Creekways is now uncertain, and  I would encourage the City and County to collaborate for the purpose of 1.) Finishing the project in its entirety  so that its ring around the city is complete, and 2.) I would like to see its expansion so that more residents  throughout the city, especially in further areas, can enjoy the trail system.

Question 4:  "Do you support increased funds to expand and maintain VIA bus services and routes?"
Yes
Reason for answer:   I wholeheartedly support increased funding for the expansion and maintenance of VIA bus  services and routes. Our city has a lot of ground to make up in making sure public transportation is accessible  to all San Antonians. Doing so would have a positive impact on road conditions, would reduce traffic, and is a step in the right direction in protecting our environment.

Question 5:  "Should funding for more bicycle lanes and pedestrian safety education be included in the city's annual transportation budget?"
Yes
Reason for Answer:  Funding for increased bicycle lanes and pedestrian safety education should absolutely be included in the city’s annual transportation budget. The city has a responsibility to address the needs of our community and to preserve and protect our environment. Pedestrian and bicycle safety is often overlooked by our elected officials. If elected, I will advocate for the efficacy of multimodal transportation and for the safety of  those who ride bicycles.
