Score:  4.7% Bicycle Friendly

Position running for: City Council District 3

Question 1: "You're driving along and you encounter a person on a bicycle taking up the entire lane. What is your reaction?

A, That's illegal and they should be riding on the sidewalk.

B, Intimidate them so they will learn their place on the roadway.

C, It's okay to hit them with your car, and it's their fault for being in the way.

D, None of the above.

Reason for answer:  There may not be a bike lane or emergency lane available for the bicyclist to ride in. I would be sure to give the bicyclist enough space as to not intimidate by being too close behind.

Question 2: Running for Council: Will you as a Council Member focus on putting down a Protected Bicycle Lane on the busiest corridor in your district? And what is the busiest corridor in your district?
No
Comments:  The busiest corridor in my district in Military Dr, which already has seen some major improvements to road expansion. My reason for answering no is because there are some areas where bicyclist frequent that are on older roads south of Military Dr. and 410. These roads are narrower and winding and do not provide enough room nor visibility for both motorist and bicyclist. More in the southeast areas near Presa, Old Corpus Christi Road, Hwy 181 and 37.

Question 3:  How should the Linear Creekways be funded, and on which improvement to the Linear Creekway do you want the funds to be spent?
Answer:  Reevaluate where funding is going right now over the course of the next year, specifically the work ready program. If the work ready programs are not performing the way they were intended city  council needs to go back to the drawing board and consider funding the linear creekway expansion and improvements again. From March 2019 to May 2020, usage of these linear creekway paths have doubled, showing that the city is utilizing these paths. The ways I would like to see the funds spent are of course completing the desired plan that was first implemented, but also adding lighting in some regions to allow for people to utilize these pathways in more early hours as well as later in the evening. Also, expanding access to and from these pathways connecting them to business as well as residential areas. By expanding access, not only will this project pose as a great way for citizens to enjoy the pathways for leisurely activities, but also allow for them to utilize it for necessary travel as well.

Question 4:  "Do you support increased funds to expand and maintain VIA bus services and routes?"
No

Reason for answer:  After looking at budget reports from recent years for VIA, I noticed that before the recent city tax that was initiated on the Nov ballot, VIA has a surplus of funds and it was not necessary to increase more city tax revenue at this time or indefinitely.

Question 5:  "Should funding for more bicycle lanes and pedestrian safety education be included in the city's annual transportation budget?"
Yes
Reason for Answer:  Bicycle lanes and pedestrian safety education go hand in hand with public safety. As the city aims to become more “green”, we will see an influx of people utilizing bicycles and walking. We need to work on improving roadways so they are safe for everyone, as well as continuing to educate the public.
